Padel Ziggo Sport - World Padel Tour Amsterdam

Padel on Ziggo Sport

Ziggo Sport has added an interesting new sport to its broad portfolio of top sporting events. For the next three years, the sports channel will be broadcasting the international tournaments of the World Padel Tour, where the world’s professional elite will cross swords during the men’s and women’s competitions. The first tournament that the broadcaster will be reporting on is the Reus Costa Daurada Open in Spain during the weekend of 11 to 13 March.

Padel is currently one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and it’s is also making great strides in the Netherlands. ‘Padel is extremely popular and padel courts are springing up like mushrooms all over the place. It’s fast, spectacular and highly entertaining, and appeals to a broad target audience. It is a perfect match for Ziggo Sport’s portfolio and a great addition to all the rights we already own,’ Marcel Beerthuizen of Ziggo Sport reckons.

This year’s World Padel Tour consists of 24 events played on four continents. The year will round off with a master final in which the top-ranked players will compete against each other. The World Padel Tour will also be coming to the Netherlands this year. The Amsterdam Padel Open 2022 is from 26 September to 2 October.

‘Ziggo Sport already works closely with the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association, which is the umbrella organisation for padel sport in the Netherlands. It invests heavily in the development of top Dutch players. We are also in a partnership to organise the World Padel Tour Amsterdam, with John van Lottum of Plaza Padel at the helm. More and more these days companies are stepping up as sponsors. We will give the sport an extra boost, in close collaboration with all those involved. We will not only broadcast the top matches between the best players in the world, we will also broadcast tutorials and background stories,’ Beerthuizen tells us.
